  1. What is a 3M™ Light Pipe?
3M™ Light Pipe is a transparent pipe lined with 3M™ Optical Lighting Film. Light Pipes are used to transport and distribute light injected into its ends. 3M™ Light Pipes are used as distributions systems for general lighting and for architectural highlighting.

  2. How does a light pipe work?
The material which makes light pipes possible, 3M™ Optical Lighting Film, lines the inner surface of a light pipe. This micro-replicated prismatic film is highly reflective to light striking the surface of the film at certain angles, and is transmissive at other angles. By injecting light, with the correct beam spread, into a light pipe the light will reflect off the inside walls of the light pipe traveling away from the source. Various extraction techniques are used to uniformly release light along the length of the light pipe.
