Brontes Technologies, a 3M Company

Brontes Technologies, Inc. was founded in 2003 born out of the research of Dr. Janos Rohaly, Professor Douglas Hart and two graduate students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After three years of research, the inventing team received a grant from Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation at MIT to shift the focus of its work toward commercial opportunities.

In the fall of 2002, the inventing team recruited Eric Paley and Micah Rosenbloom to evaluate the commercial potential of the technology, develop a business plan and raise capital. In May 2003, the combined team was selected as the runner-up in the MIT 50K  and Harvard Business School Business Plan Competitions. Brontes Technologies was incorporated in June of 2003 and the dreams of the founders were on the road to becoming reality. The company received its first round of capital in 2004 from three world-class venture capital funds. In October 2006, Brontes Technologies was acquired by 3M Company.

Today, Brontes maintains their same headquarters in Lexington, MA and their same entrepreneurial culture.  The combination of Brontes’ development of truly revolutionary technology with 3M ESPE’s established commitment to quality, support and excellence presents the dental industry with an extraordinary product today and the solid foundation for future development.
