Application Technique: Hide Those Lamps

When a sign face is in a shallow cabinet, the internal lamps may show up on the sign face as unacceptable light streaks, hot spots or even as bright outlines.

One way to reduce or eliminate these undesirable effects is to apply a diffuser film to the back of the sign face.

Products like 3M™ Diffuser Films 3635-30 and 3635-70 help distribute light uniformly over the sign face. The films are specially formulated to control light or achieve special effects and provide 30 percent light transmission and 60 percent light transmission‚ respectively.

In cases where the lamps are too close to the sign face‚ consider using several layers of diffuser film. Otherwise‚ switch to a deeper cabinet.
