The dual cast wrap films come in four matte colors (white, black, silver and military green) and two carbon-fiber looks (black and anthracite). Coming soon: brushed metals in gold, aluminum, steel, blue steel or titanium, as well as high gloss colors.
New Tricks for Your Business
No printing or overlaminating: You can apply film 1080 right out of the box for instant color and texture.
Easy application and removal: Film 1080 performs like other premium 3M wrap films with conformability, slideability and non-visible air release. The 3½- to 5-mil cast film is thicker than traditional films, providing just enough stiffness to install easily without a premasking tape.
Comments on 3M™ Scotchprint® Wrap Film Series 1080 from Installers at SGIA
Sean Rhodes, installation training and testing manager, Lowen Certified (Hutchinson, Kansas) – 3M Preferred Graphics Installer
The demos at SGIA 2010 were the first time that I got my hands on the new film 1080. For me to test it out for the first time, while doing live demos was a bit crazy, but the film feels very familiar and is nice to work with. Anybody who has experience laying vinyl laminated IJ180Cv3 will feel right at home, with no unexpected issues.
The biggest benefit that I see right off the bat is for the independent installers that currently outsource print and lam work, or shops that experience issues printing large runs of solid color with tight consistency.
Now that vehicle wrap has broken into the customization market, even the single solid color changes are getting to be in higher demand. Matte finish is hands-down the big craze right now, and the new 1080 will be the better option rather than running the risk of print banding or pressing a second layer of film to the install. The sample that impressed me most was the matte finish silver, because it’s a finish that I haven't seen in wrap films yet, and it’s ready to apply right out of the box!
Jeff Wagner, owner, J3 Industries (Frisco, Texas) – 3M Preferred Graphics Installer
3M’s 1080 matte wrap material has all of the installation benefits of Film IJ180Cv3 without the hassle of printing. It’s a great new product that should be a big hit in the wrap market.
Freedom to flip: Changing a look is never a problem. Film 1080 offers long-term removability from original painted surfaces.
Wrap anything: Use film 1080 for whole or partial restyling of vehicles, tricking out motorcycles, ATVs and more.
