Don't Miss the Boat - Put a Wrap On It!
More than ever, top-notch fishing professionals and other marine enthusiasts are using custom
graphics on their watercraft to distinguish their "personal brand." Graphic film is the ideal
platform to advertise, promote sponsorships or just simply have fun creating a unique look.
For sign shop owners, the marine market presents a great opportunity to expand your wrap business.
Professional angler Bernie Schultz
relies on 3M wrap film
to promote himself and successfully represent his sponsors. "Making sure my boat and rig create
a buzz at every tournament is critical to maintaining a visible presence in the fishing industry,"
said Schultz. "Using bold graphics on 3M wrap film helps my team develop a unique look that not
only satisfies my sponsors, it also creates excitement with the fans."
Making Old Look New Again
The stagnant economy effects more than just water sport professionals. Many boating
enthusiasts are choosing to forego the purchase of a new boat this season, but they
still want to create some new excitement. Graphic films can provide the perfect solution -
a customized, fresh appearance that will make the old look new again.
Requests for wrapped watercraft in both the salt and fresh water marine industry
have increased significantly. Damon Coppola, vice president, Wrap This, Ink,
Longwood, Fla., explained, "My wrap division has grown over 30 percent in the past four years and I don't see it slowing
down anytime soon. Not only are consumers excited about getting a new, personalized look for a fraction of the cost
of a new boat, most professionals are now required by their sponsors to have their boat custom wrapped."
Wrap This, Ink used 3M™ Controltac™ Graphic Film with Comply™ v3 Adhesive IJ180Cv3
to give Schultz's competition boat a "buzz-worthy" look for the 2011 season. Another 3M film with a watercraft
warranty is 3M™ Scotchprint® Wrap Film Series 1080.
3M doesn't just recommend film for marine wraps, we warrant it for two years!

Pro Tips for Wrapping Watercraft
The marine market presents special opportunities and special challenges for graphic wraps. Here are a few tips and tricks to help make the job a success:
All graphics must be applied above the static water line.
Try to use only one panel of film per side.
All cut seams and edges must be edge sealed or edge taped.
Before film installation, remove the rub-rail and as much additional hardware from the body as possible.
When washing the watercraft:
Avoid soaps or preparations that contain waxes, oils or lotions; some window cleaners contain waxes.
Be aware that the chemicals used in some automated washing equipment may prevent good film adhesion.
Pay particular attention to cleaning the front and rear of the watercraft, which tend to have more oily residue.
Remember, wax can greatly reduce graphic adhesion. Solvent-based cleaners must be used to thoroughly remove any wax residue. Alcohol-based cleaners do not remove wax as effectively.
