3M™ VeriMe™ is a solution for secure network access that strongly authenticates individuals. The unit is a personal, wearable device that uses a combination of biometrics and cryptography to provide secure system access. 3M™ VeriMe™ provides a level of user authentication that can't be achieved by passwords or smart cards. The unit contains, onboard, its user's fingerprint template and cryptographic private key, which are used to confirm the identity of the user. 3M™ VeriMe™ is immune to the problem of "identity theft": the unit works only for its registered user, the person whose fingerprint matches the stored template.
SECURITY 3M™ VeriMe™ provides secure access to confidential information systems by strongly authenticating users. A unique combination of biometrics and cryptography is used to confirm the identity of each user at logon and to create digital signatures.
PRIVACY 3M™ VeriMe™ automatically applies pre-defined access policy to ensure privacy of secure data -- users logging on to the network are presented only with information they are authorized to see. Because 3M™ VeriMe™'s communication with the network is based on proximity, automatic logoff takes place when the user leaves a network access point. This protects sensitive data from exposure to unauthorized users.
3M™ VeriMe™ protects the privacy of users by creating and securely storing their fingerprint template and private key only onboard their personal unit.
