The 3M Petrifilm Aerobic Count Plate is a ready-made culture medium system that contains Standard Methods nutrients, a cold-water-soluble gelling agent, and a tetrazolium indicator that facilitates colony enumeration.

Use 3M Petrifilm Aerobic Count Plates for total aerobic population determination in 48 hours. The indicator dye in the plate colors all colonies red. Red colonies provide better contrast for easier colony counting. Red colonies are also easily distinguished from opaque food particles that can cause confusion with other plating methods.

Following a simple procedure, you will find 3M Petrifilm Aerobic Count Plates can also be a cost-effective method for detecting lactic acid bacteria within 48 hours. It can differentiate important gas-producing organisms (heterofermenters) from non-gas-producing organisms (homofermenters). Petrifilm Aerobic Count Plates, in combination with MRS broth and anaerobic incubation, enhance the growth of homo- and heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria. After incubation, lactic acid bacteria colonies are red to reddish-brown in color and may or may not be associated with gas bubbles depending on the presence of homofermentative or heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria.
