3M™ Nextel™ Ceramic Textiles and Fibers for electrical insulation in high temperature applications
The unique electrical properties of advanced ceramics along with their outstanding temperature resistance make 3M™ Nextel™ Ceramic Fiber Products a natural choice for high temperature electrical insulation. Nextel ceramic textiles remain flexible and exhibit low shrinkage at temperatures up to 1200°C. With no residual acids or chlorides that could leach out and cause etching of metal, Nextel fiber products are compatible with many alloys. These advanced ceramic materials feature low moisture absorption and low thermal conductivity, and offer high electrical resistance at very high temperatures. For example, 3M™ Nextel™ Braided Sleeving is used as high temperature electrical insulation for heaters, type K thermocouples and interconnect wiring in fuel cells protecting against extreme heat to allow reliable transmission of electrical current, even in the most demanding conditions.
