In virtually all extrusion processes – including blown film, coating, pipe and profile extrusion – waxy deposits known as die build-up accumulate on the die surface, affecting both manufacturing efficiency and extrudate quality. Die build-up can worsen over time, to the point where the extrusion process must be stopped to clean the die.

Even at very low use levels (100-800 ppm), 3M™ Dynamar™ Polymer Processing Additives (PPAs) have proven to reduce die build-up in a wide range of polymers – from low melt index resins like LLDPE to high molecular weight HDPE. PPAs work by migrating to the die wall surface, where they form a low-friction coating that allows the polymer to slip past the die rather than sticking. By reducing die build-up, Dynamar PPAs help reduce equipment downtime and improve end product quality – for a smoother extrusion process from start to finish.
