Leave nothing to chance

As digital technology becomes more important to our lives with smart cards and e-payments, digital pickpockets become more of a threat. The reason is because of something called RFID.

Private Information
Q.

Should you be concerned?

The risk of digital pick-pocketing or someone accessing your personal information from your RFID chip without your knowledge or permission will continue to increase as the use of these smart cards becomes more common in our every day lives. And it is true that basic RFID readers can be purchased or made with the help of a simple internet search. But fear not.

While credit card companies have been developing sophisticated encryption techniques to hinder digital thieves and make it harder for them to access and use your information, companies like 3M have also been working to develop security features built into your cards as well as products that put you back in control of your information. So while your exposure to theft may be increasing, thanks to 3M, so should your peace of mind.

Q.

Why 3M?

Card Protection

Who better than 3M to trust for protecting valuable personal information on your smart cards and passports from identity thieves?

3M has 30 years of experience managing electronic data with global digital security and manufacturing expertise to handle the needs of people and organizations, worldwide. And 3M has over 100 years of experience producing quality products that people prefer.

So why would anyone trust their critical personal information to new, untested companies that may be less than a year old?

Q.

What is RFID?

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. Basically, it's a technology that enables the wireless transmission of electronic data, using radio waves. Although this technology has been around for a while, increasingly it is being used in many of today's credit cards and passports because of its convenience. With this technology, the owners can pay for products or have their passports processed through contactless methods (like scanners in stores and retail locations). The RFID chip serves the same purpose as a bar code or a magnetic strip on the back of a credit card or ATM card; it provides a unique identifier for that object and may contain personal or product specific information. This greatly increases the speed of the transaction.

It also greatly increases the risk of that data being exposed to digital pickpockets.

Q.

How can you protect yourself?

3M™ Data Protection Sleeves that shield smart cards and passports can help. But not all data protection sleeves are the same.

Some use aluminum coated paper and adhesives that may show signs of wear in just a few days or weeks.

However, 3M™ Data Protection Sleeves protect valuable information on smart cards and passports with advanced copper engineering and strong polyester construction that minimize wear and tear as you repeatedly insert your card. And only 3M™ Data Protection Sleeves feature unique 3M papers and adhesives that bond the protective elements for a sturdy, durable, waterproof construction.

The result is protection that's strong and can last for years.

In short, better construction equals better security.
