The Legislation
The Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) is part of the Electronic Government Act of 2002. The E-Government Act was enacted for several reasons:
- to promote interagency collaboration
- to improve the ability of the government to reach agency goals
- to promote the use of information technologies to provide increased participation by US citizens and
- to provide enhanced access to government information and services
