K-12 Education Giving

Science Plus
Math, science and economics are disciplines essential to 3M’s future success. Our giving invests in teachers and opportunities that introduce new methods of learning into classrooms. 3M volunteers bring learning to life as tutors, mentors and classroom speakers.

Why We Give to K-12 Education

  • To increase student achievement in math, science and economics.
  • To make learning relevant through connections with everyday life and future careers.
  • To inspire students to pursue higher education.
  • To further learning through after school programs.

Highlights

Newton's Apple
For seven years, 3M and the 3M Foundation sponsored "Newton's Apple," produced by Twin Cities Public Television, St. Paul, Minn. The show brought science to life for viewers of all ages. Teacher's guides were developed in partnership with the National Science Teachers Association. A new grant to Twin Cities Public Television makes the guides and streaming videos available online for teachers. Students visiting the site will find ideas for science fair projects. More

3M Ingenuity Grants to Teachers
Teacher Marti Adair at Clayton Elementary School in Austin, Texas will use a 3M Ingenuity Grant for student gardens designed to attract known pollinators, such as bees, wasps, butterflies, moths and hummingbirds.

Students from five fifth-grade classes will study the gardens’ ecosystem, plant/pollinator interactions, how pollination works and the vital role it plays in plant reproduction. In hands-on, indoor/outdoor science lab investigations, students will learn botany, biology, entomology, ecology and math concepts. More

School Partnerships
Our partnership with St. Paul Public Schools bolsters math, science and economics learning and career awareness at urban schools. A business partnership with Johnson and Harding High Schools is geared to increase student achievement, graduation and college readiness. More
