Mentor Net - A New Statewide Initiative

MentorNet in San Jose, Calif., received a $50,000 grant to launch Minnesota MentorNet with a pilot that involves seven postsecondary institutions. The program matches college students studying science and engineering with professionals working in industry, government and higher education.

Since 2002, 3M employees around the world have mentored over 1,000 students.

Rosalie Clemens, senior applications development engineer, a MentorNet Protégé, launched the program. “Many of the students say MentorNet helped them with their classwork and increased their motivation to succeed in their chosen field. Mentors also report value from these relationships,” Clemens said, “including increased skills, new information and relationships, and new perspectives on their work.”
