Austin Center History

After the company’s 1983 acquisition of land northwest of the city‚ near the intersection of RR 2222 and RR 620‚ plans for a 158-acre 3M research and development site were announced in February 1984. Employees began to move into the building in August 1988. This is the global headquarters of the 3M Electro and Communications Business (ECB) and the only multi-division site located outside of company headquarters in St. Paul‚ Minn. The front door to the 3M complex is the 3M Innovation Center‚ a facility for customer training and meetings.
