Austin‚ Texas‚ is the site of two 3M operations: a research and development site and a manufacturing plant.
Austin Center
Research & Development – 6801 River Place Blvd.
After the company’s 1983 acquisition of land northwest of the city‚ near the intersection of RR 2222 and RR 620‚ plans for a 158-acre 3M research and development site were announced in February 1984. This is the global headquarters of the 3M Electro and Communications Business (ECB) and the only multi-division site located outside of company headquarters in St. Paul‚ Minn.
Austin Plant
Manufacturing – 11705 Research Blvd.
This plant manufactures electronic hard goods and does new product manufacturing scale-up supporting 3M operations globally. The plant is located in an industrial-zoned area of the Austin metropolitan area with frontage to U.S. Highway 183.
