History of 3M Alexandria

3M opened its' Alexandria Abrasives Plant in January, 1967, in a temporary plant of 3,000 square feet. In March of 1968 we moved to the location we occupy today.

The original building contained 60,000 square feet and has been expanded five times. Alexandria was selected from many other areas being considered because of the excellent plant site, adequate power, transportation and water, coupled with the most important resource - reliable, industrious people.

We celebrated our 40th anniversary in 2007 and continue to grow as one of the area's largest industries and employers.
