We developed 3M™ Vinyl Tape 472 as a thick and versatile tape that is ideally suited for heavy-duty protection, abrasion resistance and a range of other applications. It is comprised of a tough, 9.0 mil black vinyl backing with black pigmented rubber adhesive. The backing thickness makes it ideal for applications requiring both surface protection and the inherent conformability of vinyl.

This reliable tape is effective for use in outdoor applications and will remove cleanly from many surfaces for up to six months. Our rubber adhesive provides instant adhesion and holds well to a variety of surfaces. Its extra-thick, durable backing offers protection for abrasive blasting, lasting hold for temporary patching, and durability for outdoor weathering applications. We make the tape to be both moisture resistant and non-corrosive to help safeguard surfaces and its flexible, conformable nature makes 3M™ Vinyl Tape 472 suitable for a variety of uses. Smooth unwind makes the tape easy to apply and its black color helps it stand out for good visibility. Best results we recommend applying this tape to clean, dry surface at temperatures between 60 to 80 degrees F (16 to 27 degrees C).
