3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8010
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8010
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive 8010 is a two-part acrylic based adhesive specially formulated to bond many low surface energy plastics, including many grades of polypropylene, polyethylene, and thermoplastic elastomers (TPE`s) without special surface preparation.
  • Creates strong bond on low surface energy plastics with minimal or no prep required
  • Resists many chemicals, water, humidity, and corrosion
  • Medium viscosity allows controlled dispensing
  • Formulated to bond dissimilar substrates for multiple uses in the same application
  • Strong adhesive can replace screws, rivets, plastic welding, and two-step processes

Overview

Structural bonds can be achieved without special surface treatments such as chemical etching, plasma, flame, or corona treatment or priming. Simply wipe the surfaces with isopropanol to remove mold release agents, dust dirt, etc. 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive 8010 also bonds metals, ceramics, and wood and most other plastics. It is slightly flexible when cured and the exposed adhesive may have a wrinkled appearance, which is normal. We also formulate this adhesive with 8mil glass beads for bond line spacing.

Our acrylic adhesive starts with medium viscosity for controlled dispensing and spreads to sufficiently wet out the surface. The mix ratio is 10:1 and provides a 10 minute work life. The adhesive reaches handling strength in approximately 1 hour and is fully cured in 8-24 hours (at 72° F /22° C). 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ EPX™ Plus II applicator and mix nozzles, sold separately, are required for dispensing.

Easy Adhesion with Acrylic
Acrylic adhesives are two-part adhesives that provide excellent bond strength and durability, although slightly lower than epoxy adhesives in some situations. However, they have several features that make them easier to use, including a much faster cure speed, higher tolerance for oily or unprepared bonding surfaces and the ability to bond a wide variety of materials, including nearly all plastics. Newer acrylic adhesive formulations are room temperature stable with a long shelf life.

Advanced Adhesive Systems
Designers and engineers increasingly rely on adhesives for improved end-use performance, greater design flexibility and more efficiency in putting their products together. Backed with more than 50 years of experience in industrial adhesives, 3M continues to meet those needs. Two-part room-temperature-curing epoxy, urethane and acrylic adhesives formulated and packaged in Duo-Pak cartridges meet a wide variety of construction, MRO, and industrial applications. In addition to advanced formulations for reliability and versatility, 3M provides application systems like the EPX Pneumatic Applicator to facilitate production service to help customers in their selection of the right adhesive for the job.
