We formulated 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive CA8 as a high-strength, low viscosity industrial adhesive This rapid-setting cyanoacrylate cures at room temperature and has excellent adhesion to many metals, plastics and rubbers, and produces bonds with more shock resistance than many typical cyanoacrylate adhesives. Our clear formula meets CID A-A-3097, Type II, Class 2.
Fast setting formulation helps keep processes moving quickly
Instant adhesive works well as a metal bonder
Adhesive formula provides more shock and impact resistance than many typical cyanoacrylate adhesives
Low viscosity flows easily and forms a thin layer to create effective bonding
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive CA8 has good adhesion to many metals, plastics and rubbers. Our rapid-set adhesive keeps projects moving forward and productivity high. Its low viscosity helps the adhesive quickly flow and creates a thin later that bonds in seconds. This fast-acting cyanoacrylate can be used to create a rapid-setting bond in production applications that require fast-paced, high volume processes. Handling strength is achieve between 5 and 40 seconds, depending on environmental conditions, and reach its full bond strength within 24 hours, providing an impressive shear strength of 2000 pound-force per square inch.

General Industrial Anchor
Like many of our instant adhesives, 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive CA8 is simple to apply. Our clear liquid is easily and precisely applied from the bottle – no additional tools necessary. This is a single component industrial strength adhesive, so no additional additives need to be mixed to form the adhesive. Once applied, a maximum wait of 40 seconds is all that is required for the adhesive to reach handling strength, giving you time to properly position parts before setting. After the parts are properly aligned, the full cure is achieved in 24 hours, at 72° F (22°C).
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive CA8 bonds to similar and dissimilar materials including rigid foam (beadboard styrene) , flexible foam (latex, urethane), fabric, felt, cork & fibrous glass, rigid foam (urethane), plastics (high performance nylon), plastics (ABS, PVC, acrylic), metal, plastics (polyolefins and thermoplastic elastomers), paper & cardboard , plastics (flexible vinyl), rubber and EPDM rubber.
What are Instant Adhesives?
Instant adhesives, commonly referred to as "instant glue," are cyanoacrylate based formulas that are strong, fast-acting adhesives used in industrial, and household applications. In general, they are an acrylic resin that rapidly polymerises in the presence of water (specifically hydroxide ions), forming long, strong chains, joining the bonded surfaces together. Cyanoacrylates typically have a short shelf. As a liquid, cyanoacrylate consists of monomers of cyanoacrylate molecules. Depending on the intended application or to facilitate easy handling, a cyanoacrylate adhesive may be formulated with an ingredient such as fumed silica to make it more viscous or gel-like.
Because the presence of moisture causes the glue to set, exposure to normal levels of humidity in the air causes a thin skin to form within seconds, which greatly slows the reactive curing process. Because of this, cyanoacrylate should be applied thinly to ensure that the reaction proceeds rapidly and a strong bond is formed within a reasonable time. Our instant ca adhesives apply right from the container and rapidly reach handling strength at room temperature. A single drop per square inch can bond many plastics, rubber, metal and more with tensile strength up to 5,000 psi.
Superior Aesthetic Quality
Unlike mechanical fastening methods, our clear-formula instant adhesive doesn’t damage the appearance of finished projects because there is no need to drill holes – creating an aesthetically superior look that eliminates the need for unsightly bolts, screws, rivets and fasteners. The 2,000 pound-force per square inch shear strength for steel (2,800 for aluminum-etched) makes 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive CA8 ideal for use in a number of industries, including: transportation, specialty vehicle, metalworking, construction, medical, military and government, general industrial, MRO, electronics and consumer goods.
