Our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive CA4 has good adhesion to a variety of substrates, including most cured rubbers, plastics and metals. This high-strength, multi-purpose adhesive is a great option for those looking for an easy-to-apply adhesive that provides a very fast setting bond.

Recommended Applications
  • Industrial applications
  • General purpose applications
  • Bonding rubbers, plastics and metals
  • Instant bonding
Easy Application
Like many of our instant adhesives, the 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive CA4 is simple to apply. The clear liquid adhesive is easily and precisely applied from the bottle — no additional tools necessary. This is a single component, industrial strength adhesive, so no additional additives need to be mixed to form the adhesive. After applying 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Instant Adhesive CA4, wait 40 seconds until handling strength. After the parts are properly aligned, the full cure is achieved in 24 hours, at 72° F (22°C).

What are Instant Adhesives?
Instant adhesives are cyanoacrylate based formulas that are strong, fast-acting adhesives used in industrial and household applications. In general, they are an acrylic resin that rapidly polymerizes in the presence of water (specifically hydroxide ions), forming long, strong chains, joining the bonded surfaces together. Cyanoacrylates typically have a short shelf life. As a liquid, cyanoacrylate consists of monomers of cyanoacrylate molecules. Depending on the intended application (PDF 16 Mb) or to facilitate easy handling, a cyanoacrylate adhesive may be formulated with an ingredient such as fumed silica to make it more viscous or gel-like.

The presence of moisture causes the glue to set meaning exposure to normal levels of humidity in the air causes a thin skin to form within seconds, which greatly slows the reactive curing process; because of this process, cyanoacrylate should be applied thinly to ensure that the reaction proceeds rapidly and a strong bond is formed within a reasonable time. Our instant adhesives apply right from the container and rapidly reach handling strength at room temperature. A single drop per square inch can bond many plastics, rubber, metal and more.

Superior Aesthetic Quality
Unlike mechanical fastening methods, our instant adhesive doesn't damage the appearance of finished projects because there is no need to drill holes — creating an aesthetically superior look that eliminates the need for unsightly bolts, screws, rivets and fasteners. The 2,300 pound-force per square inch shear strength for steel (2,800 for aluminum-etched) makes this industrial strength adhesive ideal for use in a number of industries, including: transportation, specialty vehicle, metalworking, construction, military and government, general industrial, MRO, electronics and consumer goods.
