3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 1386 is a one-part, thermosetting liquid adhesive that provides exceptionally high strength at service temperatures from -70°F to 300°F (-57ºC to 149ºC). This cream colored adhesive can be applied by knife coating, trowel, roller coating, pump and high pressure injection methods. Standard equipment is available which allows pumping directly from five-gallon pails.
Exceptionally high strength properties at service temperatures from -70ºF to 300ºF (-57ºC to 149ºC)
Higher impact, peel and bond strength than many epoxy based adhesives
Little volatile by-products given off during cure
Easy application by knife coating, trowel, roller coating, pump and high pressure injection methods
Excellent retention of strength after aging in typical environments
Only pressure sufficient to ensure contact between mating surfaces is required
High Performance at High Temperatures
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 1386 offers exceptionally high performance at service temperatures ranging from -70ºF to 300ºF (-57ºC to 149ºC). Another beneficial feature is that it releases little or no volatile by-products during its cure process. Cure profile: 60 minutes at 350ºF (177ºC).
Metal to metal bonding
Offers Excellent Strength Retention
The strong, reliable formula enables curing with only pressures sufficient to insure contact between mating surfaces required. This cream colored adhesive is a versatile product that can be applied knife coating, trowel, roller coating, pump and high pressure injection to meet a variety of dispensing requirements and situations. 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 1386 provides excellent retention of strength after aging in typical environments.
General Characteristics of Epoxy Adhesives
Epoxies are polymer materials that start out as liquids and undergo a chemical reaction to form a solid. These compounds are a major part of the class of adhesives called "structural adhesives," which includes polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate, and others. One-part epoxies have a limited shelf life at room temperature, and may require cold storage and shipment. However, they offer long work lives after application and do not require mixing at application time.
Epoxy adhesives provide better heat and chemical resistance than other common adhesives and those that require heat to cure will be more heat and chemical resistant than those that cure at room temperature. An epoxy based polymer is mechanically strong, chemically resistant to degradation, and very tacky during its working time. Epoxy adhesives are used in the manufacture of buildings, homes, aircraft, automobiles, bicycles, boats, golf clubs, skis, and snowboards, as well as many other applications where high-strength bonds are needed along with resistance to environmental conditions. Epoxy adhesives can be formulated to meet almost any requirement for bonding wood, metal, glass, stone, and various plastics. Using different formulations, epoxies can be made flexible or rigid, transparent or opaque, quick setting or slow setting.
