3M™Polyester Tape 8992 is an ideal choice for reliable, cost-effective powder coat masking. It removes cleanly without slivering or breaking while resisting shrinking, curling and edge lifting. Combined with high tensile strength this tape performs extremely well even at very high temperatures.

Visible Performance
3M™ Polyester Film Tape 8992 is a transparent green polyester tape with a silicone adhesive. The polyester film offers excellent thermal, abrasion and chemical resistance while maintaining flexibility. The green color makes tape placement obvious for both application and removal. A high strength, non-slivering polyester backing offers good tensile strength and high tear resistance so it can endure rugged working conditions and paint masking applications. When removed the backing will leave a sharp paint line.

  • Masking for powder coat painting
  • Splicing, tabbing and roll closure of silicone treated liners or materials
  • Masking during chemical processes such as electroplating or anodization
  • Flash breaker tape when pulling through cured coating such as epoxies
  • Holding and splicing difficult to adhere surfaces such as silicone liners
  • Holding parts of sealing vacuum bags during autoclave processing

Clean Application and Removal with Silicone
This tape features a pressure sensitive silicone adhesive that is ideal for high temperatures to allow it to perform within a wide temperature range (-60°F/-50°C to 400°F/204°C.) This high heat resistance helps prevent failure from softening or oozing. The adhesive is long-aging to allow this tape to remain adhered and flexible. Silicone adhesives stick well to difficult surfaces such as silicone liners and silicone coated surfaces. It also works well in composite bonding applications as it sticks well to molds treated with a release agent, works as a flasher breaker tape on removal of part from mold and seals vacuum bags if vacuum bag treatment is part of the process. When finished this tape removes cleanly and easily to eliminate time consuming cleaning processes. This tape will remove cleanly from a variety of substrates and is a good, cost-effective choice for paint bake operations.
