3M™ PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5453
3M™ PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5453
3M™ PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5453 is a 8.2 mil brown glass cloth tape impregnated with PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene.) It is coated with a pressure sensitive silicone adhesive that bonds easily to provide a slick release surface on rollers, binders, formers on stitchers and other process machinery.
  • Very low moisture absorption allows tape to perform in humid environments
  • Reinforced, woven cloth fabric features increased tensile strength to resist wear, tears, and punctures
  • Conformable for wrapping around roller surfaces and in spiral patterns
  • Silicone adhesive provides long-aging and good holding power for a wide operating range
  • Thick premium grade PTFE coating for an exceptionally smooth non-stick, low-friction surface

Overview

The Perfect Choice for Specialized Applications
Typically used for heat sealing machines, lining ducts, conveying chutes, troughs, ironing and pressing equipment, and packing applications, our 3M™ PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5453 is scientifically designed to provide anti-stick, low friction, easy release surface properties for industrial manufacturing processes. In addition, this tape works well for sound management, noise reduction, and squeak and rattle prevention. With a very low moisture absorption, this tape performs well in humid work environments.

Designed to withstand a range of temperatures from -100°F/-73°C to 500°F/260°C, this tape is ideal for a variety of applications. It is also chemical resistant, high in strength, and abrasion resistant. With a conformable backing the tape can be wrapped around rollers or in irregular and spiral patterns with ease. The long-aging, pressure sensitive silicone adhesive is designed to deliver good holding power, and removes cleanly and easily leaving behind minimal residue.

What is PTFE?
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic material used in a variety of industries and applications to reduce the coefficient of friction. PTFE is used as a non-stick coating for frying pans and other cookware because of its non-stick property as well as high heat resistance. Its non-conductivity makes it an excellent insulating material for electrical applications. It is very non-reactive to numerous chemicals, partly due to the strength of carbon–fluorine bonds; making it very effective in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive substances. PTFE reduces friction, wear and energy efficiency of machinery. Because of its low friction, PTFE is used in industrial applications where sliding action of parts is required, such as with bearings, gears, slide plates, etc. In these applications, it delivers significantly better performance than nylon and acetal.
