3M Healthcare Data Dictionary is a controlled vocabulary server. It allows systems to translate and integrate patient data into a standard, meaningful language that can be used regardless of where it originated. Then caregivers and administrators can begin to share and aggregate the information for clinical decision-making and quality analysis.
3M Healthcare Data Dictionary supports electronic medical records and the exchange of health data in the following ways:
- Accepts data from diverse sources, including legacy information systems and personal health records.
- Captures the context of data in time, space and relationship with other data.
- Standardizes and normalizes data in a consistent form so that it is comparable and transferable among systems for patient portals, care providers, and state regional health entities.
- Clearly and unambiguously defines healthcare terms, providing unique identifiers and meanings for unique concepts.
- Complies with all security, privacy and interoperability requirements for patient release of information, auditable events and access management.
