The change from ICD-9 to ICD-10 involves the conversion of your existing applications, reports and documents from the language of ICD-9 to the language of ICD-10. Most of the ICD-10 translation is fairly straightforward‚ but that doesn’t mean it's easy.
The 3M™ ICD-10 Code Translation Tool (CTT) automates large portions of this conversion for you, saving you time and money as well as increasing your accuracy.
The challenging part of the code translation is the minority of codes that will require 80 percent of your effort — the "many-to-one" and "one-to-many" relationships between ICD-9 and ICD-10. The 3M ICD-10 CTT helps your experts efficiently and accurately handle these complex translations.
For example, the ICD-9 code for Hematuria maps to four more specific ICD-10 code choices.
In another example, the ICD-10 code E11341 translates back to a combination of ICD-9 codes.
The 3M CTT identifies these and other translation issues for expert review. The dynamic and intuitive tool helps your in-house specialists complete the conversion project.
3M: More than a decade of ICD-10 preparation
For more than a decade 3M worked under a contract initiated with the Health Care Financing Administration to develop ICD-10 PCS. We continue to work under contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to maintain ICD-10 PCS‚ revising it for changes as they occur in the healthcare system.
Most recently, 3M gained additional experience developing the GEMs and ICD-10 Reimbursement Mappings under contracts with the Centers for Disease Control and CMS.
