3M produces two types of light guides to enable the creation of impressive new lighting concepts and increase perceived quality in your vehicle!

3M™ Light String
3M Light String is a flexible, cut-to-length, light guide that produces a 360-degree diffuse light that is perfect for producing stylized ambient lighting. The round light guides illuminate evenly around curved surfaces and over long length, and are easy to handle and integrate into doors, instrument panels, center consoles and overhead consoles. 3M Light String can be cut directly from the roll to a specific length either at 3M or during the customer production process – eliminating expensive tooling costs. By using 3M Light String, you can reduce development time and generate custom demo concepts quickly.

3M Light String is currently available in two different diameters: 6.3mm and 3.5mm.

3M™ Precision Lighting Elements
3M Precision Lighting Elements are extremely flexible, mushroom-shaped, polyurethane light guides that generate a focused line of light that is perfect for both functional and ambient lighting in the vehicle. 3M uses a unique extraction pattern to control the light output angle and intensity over the length of the light guide. The directional light of the 3M Precision Lighting Element makes it the perfect choice for applications requiring a controlled line of light such as map pockets, rear seat reading lamps, foot wells, and center consoles. The highly flexible 3M Precision Lighting Element enables the lighting of complex curved shapes with no risk of breakage during assembly or usage.

3M Precision Lighting Elements are available in a 6.3 mm diameter.
