Features & Benefits

Reinforced stabilization border

Reinforced stabilization border

  • Enhances stabilization while remaining flexible and conformable
  • Reduces edge roll to maintain seal
  • Provides comfort and resists soiling for longer wear time

Deep notch*

Deep notch*

  • Designed to shift the pull force from the edge, to the center, the across the dressing
  • Designed to discourage edge lift caused by the weight of the catheter and tubing
  • Designed to diminish the risk of catheter manipulation and dislodgement**

Strong but gentle adhesives

Strong but gentle adhesives

  • Stabilization border adhesive forms seal around catheter site
  • Patterned film adhesive holds strongly, manages moisture and releases gently
  • When applied with firm pressure, adhesives permeate irregular surfaces of skin, increasing the total area of contact for improved adhesion
  • Adhesives build strength over the first 24 hours
  • Latex-free

Sterile tape strips

Sterile tape strips

  • Enhance stabilization, allowing the dressing to withstand additional pull force*
  • Improve protocol compliance
  • Precut for anchoring hubs, lumens and tubing

Picture-frame delivery

Picture-frame delivery

  • Design makes placement accurate and easy
  • Can be applied without touching the dressing's adhesive
  • Minimizes potential to stick to gloves or to itself

Highly Breathable Transparent film

Highly Breathable Transparent film

  • Provides continual site observation
  • Conformable to body contours and flexes with patient movement
  • Is semi-permeable promoting moisture evaporation and improved securement
  • Provides a waterproof, sterile barrier to external contaminants including liquids, bacteria and viruses***

Documentation label

Documentation label

  • Allows for documenting dressing changes
  • Preprinted for convenience

* No notch on the 1688 dressing.

** 3M internal data on file.

*** In vitro testing shows that the transparent film of 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing provides a viral barrier for viruses 27 nm in diameter or larger while the dressing remains intact without leakage.

Clinical Evidence

Out-performs against standard transparent film dressings

Compared to standard transparent film dressing plus tape strips, 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing 1683 plus tape strips withstood nearly twice the pull force when securing a P.I.V.

When securing a winged P.I.V. catheter, 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing 1683 plus tape strips withstood nearly twice the pull force of standard transparent film dressing plus tape strips* (see Figure 1). 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing 1685 plus tape strips withstood a pull force greater than that of a standard transparent film dressing plus tape strips, when securing a P.I.C.C.* (see Figure 2).

Two innovative adhesives provide excellent hold for the length of your facility's protocol. The firmer, patterned adhesive secures and protects the catheter and channels moisture away from the skin to help reduce the risk of maceration. A second complementary adhesive around the reinforced border further enhances securement. Adhesion increases over the first 24 hours maintaining security throughout wear time, even on diaphoretic skin, yet releases gently upon removal.

Note: 3M™ Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing is not intended to replace sutures for short-term C.V.C. catheters (e.g., jugular, subclavian, femoral).

Mean force removal compared to tape and standard transparent film dressing.

Can provide significant cost savings

Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings can help facilities manage I.V. site care costs by potentially diminishing the need for more frequent dressing changes or catheter restarts.

Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings can help facilities manage I.V. site care costs by potentially diminishing the need for more frequent dressing changes or catheter restarts.

The transparent film allows for continuous visualization of the insertion site. The strong yet gentle adhesives were designed to stay in place for up to seven days. The transparent film protecting the reinforced stabilization border resists soiling. And the stabilization tape strips can be removed, enabling easy access to the hub without the need to remove or replace the entire dressing.

Over the course of a year, facilities can realize significant savings using Tegaderm™ I.V. Advanced Securement Dressings in place of tape plus transparent film dressing as part of their standard of care.
