In mid-July, the open-ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol will host its 34th meeting in Paris to once again consider a proposal from the United States, Canada and Mexico to amend the Montreal Protocol to include a phasedown of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). HFCs with high global warming potential (GWP), like those used in fire suppression, are disproportionately impacted by the phase-down proposal because the phase-down is in CO₂ equivalents.
