No.16 3M FORD FUSION RECAP:

Biffle Finishes 22nd in Red Cross Ford Fusion in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 9, 2014) — Luck wasn’t on Greg Biffle’s side at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  The No. 16 Red Cross Ford Fusion struggled with handling all throughout practice and qualifying.  The team took big swings with adjustments throughout the race and by the end Biffle was able turn competitive lap times.  With very few cautions, Biffle was trapped a lap down and never could get back on the lead lap, resulting in a 22nd-place finish.

With the new rules package for 2014, NASCAR sanctioned a half day test on Thursday allowing teams extra time ahead of the race weekend to prepare their race cars.  On Thursday Biffle knew he had his hands full with his Red Cross Ford, but by Friday it seemed as if they had made progress.  In qualifying Biffle just missed advancing to the second round and settled for a 25th-place starting position.

From the drop of the green flag Biffle reported back to his team that he had zero rear grip.  After falling back in the field due to handling, the team had nothing to lose and took a big swing at adjustments.  On the first stop Biffle received four tires, fuel, track bar, wedge and shim adjustments.

The adjustments on the first stop helped, so on the second more followed.  Four more tires, fuel, a shim out of both front shocks, track bar, wedge and air pressure adjustments.  The handling headed in the right direction a little too late to keep Biffle on the lead lap and left the team hoping for a caution and the “lucky dog” award the rest of the race.  Biffle ended the 267-lap race in the 22nd position.

Brad Keselowski saved fuel to the end, winning the race.  Dale Earnhardt J. finished runner up for the second week in a row, while Paul Menard, Joey Logano and Carl Edwards rounded out the top five.  Next up the Sprint Cup Series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway for 500 laps of short-track racing action, coverage begins at 1:00 PM ET on FOX.
