No. 16 3M SCOTCH FORD FUSION:

Biffle Rebounds from Transmission Change to Finish 13th in Phoenix

AVONDALE, Ariz. (November 10, 2013) – Many different pit strategies played out in Sunday afternoon’s race at Phoenix International Raceway.  Greg Biffle had to start at the back of the field in his No. 16 3M Scotch Ford due to changing a transmission Saturday afternoon.  With the help of strategy, Biffle found himself running in the top 10 but off-sequence from others in the field.  Biffle crossed the finish line 13th, moving up one position to seventh in the Championship standings.

After practice on Saturday the team discovered something amiss with the transmission and decided to play it safe and change the transmission prior to 312-laps on Sunday, giving up their original 18th-place starting position.  By lap 75 Biffle was 17th and working his way into the top 15.

Having to come from the back of the back, crew chief Matt Puccia had to play with strategy, which put Biffle’s Ford on a different sequence than others in the field.  As the race was winding down, Biffle was able to pit much later than others but a much needed caution came a little too late to benefit the team.

By the end of the 312-lap event, Biffle was able to lead a lap and run up inside the top five and top 10 before settling for a 13th-place finish.  The finish moved him up to seventh in the Championship standings.

Kevin Harvick capitalized on Carl Edwards running out of fuel to take home the win.  Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kurt Busch rounded out the top five.  The season finale Ford EcoBoost 400 will be next weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway.
