No. 16 3M HIRE OUR HEROES FORD FUSION RECAP:

Biffle Finishes 12th in 400th Career Sprint Cup Start

FORT WORTH, T.X. (November 3, 2013) – Greg Biffle had a Chip Foose designed 3M Hire Our Heroes Ford Fusion for his 400th career Sprint Cup start Sunday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway.  Texas is one of Biffle’s best tracks on the circuit, but the team struggled to find grip throughout the race.  The adjustment on the final pit stop seemed to be the key and Biffle was the fastest car on the track in the closing laps, working his way up to a 12th-place finish.

“That was a tough one,” said Biffle after the race.  “The car wasn’t very good in traffic and it seemed like we missed maybe the front gaps a little bit on the start.  We didn’t get it until it seemed like about 20 to go or 30 or 50 or whatever that last stop was.  I don’t know.  We just weren’t where we wanted to be.  It was a tough day.”

From the start of the race Biffle told his team he lacked grip in his No. 16 3M Hire Our Heroes Ford.  Crew chief Matt Puccia opted to pull a left front shim on their first pit stop, then followed that up with a track bar and air pressure adjustment on the second stop.

Biffle cracked the top 10 briefly with the adjustments, but the overall lack of grip continued to plague him.  The team tried different combinations of wedge, air pressure and shim adjustments, all of which culminated in the final stop on lap 300 for four tires, a shim out of the left front and fuel.

With 30 laps remaining, the 3M Hire Our Heroes Ford was one of the fastest cars on the track, but being back in traffic made it hard to pass while also managing tire wear.  Biffle ultimately crossed the finish line 12th, maintaining his eighth-place position in the Championship point standings.

Jimmie Johnson led the most laps in route to his sixth win of the season.  Dale Earnhardt Jr., Joey Logano, Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top five.  The Sprint Cup Series heads west to Phoenix International Raceway next weekend with only two races remaining in the season.
