No. 16 3M FILTRETE FORD FUSION RECAP:

Biffle Finished Ninth with No. 16 Filtrete Ford Fusion at Dover

DOVER, Del. (September 29, 2013) – Greg Biffle’s No. 16 Filtrete Ford benefitted from long green flag runs Sunday afternoon at Dover.  Biffle qualified 19th and steadily advanced though the field with air pressure and track bar adjustments.  The 400-lap race saw only four cautions and the longer the run, the better Biffle’s Ford was. Biffle earned a ninth-place finish, dropping one position to sixth in the point standings.

“We’ve just got to keep working at it,” said Biffle after the race.  “We’re learning stuff as we go, so we’ll just keep trying to get better every week.  We went back and forth between being too loose and too tight, but I think we learned something today as to why we’ve run so bad here the last two or three years. That’s good for later on, but not good for today.  Now we know.  We stumbled on to a little bit of grip, so maybe that will help us at other places.”

Early on in the race Biffle told his team his Filtrete Ford was to free.  Under the first debris caution on lap 38 Biffle pitted for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment.  Biffle restarted 20th on lap 43 and by lap 99 was up to 11th.  Another slight track bar adjustment seemed to help even more and Biffle found his way into the top 10.

An air pressure adjustment on the third stop of the day cost Biffle rear grip, but once it was reversed on the next stop he was once again on his way to the front.  The field took the final green flag restart with 25 laps remaining in the 400-lap event.  The short stretch to the end was not ideal for a car that picked up on the longer runs, but Biffle held his own and crossed the finish line ninth.

Jimmie Johnson won the AAA 400, narrowly beating out his Hendrick teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. Joey Logano, Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five.  Kansas Speedway will host the fourth race in the Chase next Sunday afternoon.
