No.16 3M FORD FUSION RECAP:

Biffle Earns Top-10 Finish at Pocono

LONG POND, Pa. (August 4, 2013) – Biffle had the fan-voted 1956 version of the 3M logo on the hood of his Ford for 400-miles at Pocono Raceway. After a solid seventh-place qualifying effort, Biffle battled handling throughout the race. The 3M Pit Bulls never gave up and Biffle crossed the finish line 10th. With a tight points battle, the finish dropped him back to 10th; a mere 13 points behind eighth.

“That was a tough day,” said Biffle. “We just couldn’t get the balance right and were a little too tight and a little too loose back and forth. We didn’t have quite what we needed, but it was good enough for a top-10 finish and we will take that. I am proud of my guys. They worked hard to keep us in the top 10 today.”

With one practice session on Friday before qualifying the 3M team focused most of their efforts on qualifying, while also making some race runs. Biffle drew an unfortunate early qualifying spot and on top of that the sun was out early in qualifying making the track slick. Despite the odds being stacked against him he was able to earn a seventh-place starting position.

Rains came Saturday washing out all final practice for the field. With a green track the field took to racing Sunday afternoon. On the opening green flag run Biffle reported back to his team that his Ford was loose into turn three then tight. The second caution of the day came out on lap 14 and NASCAR declared that would be the competition caution for the field. Biffle pitted for fuel and a right-rear wedge adjustment.

Biffle lost positions when the race went back green due to a loose-handling Ford. The 3M Pit Bulls tried an array of adjustments including shim, track bar, wedge and air pressure adjustments on the No. 16 3M Ford, but nothing seemed to be exactly what Biffle needed. The car continued to lack grip.

The last 10 laps turned out to be caution-filled and not what the 3M team wanted to see. Despite the handling, Biffle was able to hang on for a top-10 finish at the “Tricky Triangle.”

Kasey Kahne held off his teammate Jeff Gordon on the final restart to take home the checkered flag, leaving Gordon with a runner-up finish. Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounded out the top five. Next weekend the Sprint Cup Series tackles the road course at Watkins Glen, NY.
