Early Race Incident Leaves Biffle with 34th-Place Finish in Kentucky

SPARTA, Ky. (June 30, 2013) – Greg Biffle had just begun to make up ground in the 3M/National Fallen Fire Fighters Ford when Kurt Busch made contact with Brad Keselowski right in front of him on lap 49.  With nowhere to go, Biffle drove in to the spinning machine of Keselowski and incurred severe damage to his No. 16 Ford.  The crew worked tirelessly in the garage and sent Biffle back out on lap 163.  The hard work paid off and Biffle gained seven positions before the end of the race for a 34th-place finish.  He is now ninth in the point standings.

The rain rolled in on Saturday afternoon in Kentucky and forced the postponement of the race.  On Sunday at noon, the green flag dropped with Biffle in his starting position on the outside of row 10.  He quickly reported that the Fusion was loose entering the corner and tight in the center.  During the competition caution on lap 30, the team made several adjustments to the 3M/National Fallen Fire Fighters Ford and sent Biffle out 19th for the restart.

Eight laps later, Biffle reported that the car was much better and began to pick up positions.  On lap 49, however, the momentum came to a halt when he made contact with Keselowski’s Ford.  The crew worked on the car in the garage during the next 75 laps of racing and, despite severe damage to the front and rear of the No. 16 Ford, sent Biffle back out to finish the race.

The hard work was rewarded with a gain of seven positions before the end of the race.  Biffle finished 34th and is now ninth in the point standings.

“I tried to avoid the wreck,” said Biffle.  “Really proud of the team’s hard work to get us back out there.  We picked up some points and that’s about all you can ask for on a day like this.”

Matt Kenseth took the win in the Quaker State 400.  Jamie McMurray finished second followed by Clint Bowyer, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch.  The Sprint Cup Series heads back to Daytona Beach next weekend for a Saturday night showdown at Daytona International Speedway.
