No.16 MEGUIAR’S FORD FUSION RECAP:

Biffle Overcomes Damage to Finish 31st at Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. (May 26th, 2013) – In honor of Memorial Weekend Biffle’s No. 16 Ford was part of a three-car tribute to our American Heroes by Fastenal with his Roush teammates.  Biffle led the way for the trio in qualifying with a seventh-place qualifying effort, however during the race things took another turn.  The team was working on handling when Biffle got into the oil from another car and into the wall.  After repairs in the garage, Biffle returned to the race and was able to pick up seven additional spots, crossing the finish line 31st, 65 laps down.

The Coca-Cola 600 is the longest race of the year and creates a unique challenge for teams as the race starts in the evening and goes into night.  Biffle started seventh in his Fastenal Ford and didn’t want any adjustments to his car on the first round of pit stops.  As the sun continued to set the Fastenal Ford became so loose Biffle could barely drive it.

Biffle continued to lose track position while his team tried different chassis adjustments. Just over 100 laps into the race the control wire to the overhead camera for the T.V. broadcast broke, sending wire down to the track and the grandstands.  The wiring damaged some cars and NASCAR gave everyone 15 minutes for repairs.  Even after taking a good look at the car under the delay it seemed as if the adjustments didn’t help Biffle on the track.

On lap 258 the No. 88 of Dale Earnhardt Jr. had engine issues in front of Biffle on the track, the oil from his engine sent Biffle into the outside wall.  The damage was severe enough to warrant a trip to the garage for repairs.  The team never gave up, 64 laps later Biffle hit the track in the 38th position and was able to pick up a few valuable spots to ultimately finish 31st.

Kasey Kahne led the most laps and looked like he would take the win, but had to settle for second as Kevin Harvick took the win after pitting for tires.  Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano rounded out the top five.  Next up the Sprint Cup Series heads to the 1.0-mile “Monster Mile” in Dover, Del., race coverage begins at Sunday, June 2 at 1:00pm on FOX.
