No.16 MEGUIAR’S FORD FUSION RECAP:

Biffle Finishes 13th in Meguiar's Ford at Darlington

DARLINGTON, S.C. (May 11th, 2013) – Darlington Raceway, the track nicknamed “Too Tough to Tame,” proved to be a challenge for Biffle Saturday night.  Biffle had a solid ninth-place qualifying effort, but the team couldn’t quite find the grip they needed during the race.  The Pit Bulls never gave up, coming back from being a lap down to earn a 13th-place finish in the Meguiar’s Ford Fusion.

“It’s a little disappointing,” said Biffle after the race.  “I know it’s different being out front.  The car will drive a lot different, but we still don’t have the grip that we need.  We’re missing it ever since the season started with this car.  We’ve got to figure it out.”

It seems as if almost every car that races at Darlington leaves with a signature “Darlington stripe,” a well-earned mark of maneuvering around the fast 1.366-mile track.  Biffle got his “Darlington stripe” out of the way early in practice on Friday afternoon, leaving plenty of time for adjustments to get the Meguiar’s Ford race ready.

Biffle started the race ninth, but struggled finding grip.  Wedge, track bar and air pressure adjustments all made small improvements, but still weren’t enough.  Long green flag runs didn’t allow many opportunities for adjustments and spread out the field.  With 100 laps to go Biffle went a lap down to the leaders, but the team never gave up.

Biffle was able to take advantage of the “wave-around” rule twice in the remaining 100 laps to get back on the lead lap, earning a 13th-place finish.

It looked as if Kyle Busch was going to sweep the weekend as he dominated the race up until the closing laps.  He was passed by his teammate Matt Kenseth, who took home the win.  Denny Hamlin finished second in his first full race back after sitting out for a back injury suffered in California.  Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top five.  Next up is Saturday night racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a million dollars on the line in the Sprint All-Star race.  Saturday, May 18th tune into SPEED at 7:00pm ET to see who wins the jackpot.
