No.16 ACE BRAND FORD FUSION RECAP:

Biffle Finishes 19th in Kansas Following Untimely Caution

KANSAS CITY, K.S. (April 21st, 2013) —An ill-timed caution sealed Biffle’s fate after a hard-fought day at Kansas Speedway.  Biffle has one of the most successful track records at the 1.5-mile Speedway, but a loose-handling ACE Brand Ford plagued the 3M team.  Just when things were taking a turn for the better the caution came out while the field was cycling through green flag stops.  Biffle took the “wave around” to be back on the lead lap and worked his way up to a 19th-place finish, remaining fourth in the point standings.

“That caution came out at a bad time,” said Biffle.  “We’re just missing it a little bit.  That’s two races in a row now that our car hasn’t been anything like our practices.  It’s kind of like racing a whole different car and race track.  It’s like we loaded it up and went to a different place and they said, ‘Here we go,’ and they threw the green.  I don’t know what we’re going to have to do, but we’re going to have to figure it out.  We’re just not as good as we need to be and not as good as our competition, but we’ll keep working on it.”

Biffle started 11th and immediately knew he had his hands full with the No. 16 ACE Brand Ford Fusion.  Biffle told crew chief Matt Puccia that he was loose in weird places and that the nose of his Ford wasn’t down on the track at all.

Puccia tried different strategies on each pit stop to fix the handling.  Two-tires, four-tires, wedge and track bar adjustments were all given to the car, but nothing seemed to be what Biffle needed on the track.

With a little over 50 laps remaining Biffle made a routine green-flag pit stop.  Unfortunately, a few laps later the caution came out for debris on the track, putting Biffle a lap down to the leaders.  Biffle took the “wave around” to get back on the lead lap, but the lost track position from the poorly-timed debris caution proved costly when combined with the loose handling Ford.  Biffle did his best to hang on for a 19th-place finish at Kansas Speedway.

Matt Kenseth won from the pole position, picking up his second win of the season while holding off a hard-charging Kasey Kahne.  Jimmie Johnson, Martin Truex Jr. and Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five.  Next up is Saturday night short-track racing under the lights at Richmond International Raceway.  Pre-race coverage beings at 7:00pm ET on Fox.
