Designed to optimize the performance of 3M™ abrasives in operations where dust is not an issue, the 3M™ Electric Random Orbital Sander features a 5" diameter suitable for most applications, and a 3/32" orbit ideal for use with fine-grade finishing discs (sold separately). Offering consistent performance along with the convenience of portability for off-site operations, our 3M orbital sander provides a quality alternative to an air-powered sander when an air supply is unavailable or inadequate. The circuitry and motor are totally encased in the tool to prevent failure from airborne contaminants, increasing the life of the tool. This sander is an excellent choice for moderate professional use; electric sanders are not designed for long-term continuous running.
Designed with the operator in mind, our 3M™ Electric Random Orbital Sanders (ROS) have a whisper-quiet precision-balanced motor for smoother running, and incorporate numerous ergonomic features for expert handling and superior comfort, beginning with the low-profile design. We designed our electric sanders to be smaller and lighter than traditional electric sanders, and the composite cover is completely encased with 3M™ Gripping Material, increasing operator control while absorbing and reducing vibration. To reduce stress on the wrist and hand, the tool is designed with an extended curved wrist rest, which provides additional leverage as well. These features enable professional performance with less operator effort and fatigue.
As a safety function, our electric sanders will automatically switch to “Stand-By” mode if left un-used for 5 minutes. To switch the tool to "Run" mode, the operator simply presses one of the speed control buttons on the back of the sander.
In general, random orbital sanders optimize sanding and surface preparation on wood, metal, fiberglass, composite materials, and many other substrates. Also known as dual action (D/A) palm sanders, these tools rotate the abrasive disc and disc pad in two simultaneous overlapping oval patterns so no single abrasive particle follows the same path twice, producing a random scratch and swirl-free finish ready for paint or varnish.
Sometimes, an air compressor is unavailable or unable to consistently supply clean, dry air at the right pressure, leading to inconsistent performance. That's when you can count on the consistency and versatility of 3M™ Electric Random Orbital Sanders. These tools provide mobility when needed and offer significant energy cost savings over pneumatic sanders. When electric tools receive moderate usage, purchase costs may be recouped through operating cost savings in the first year.
