Our Safety and Health Policy (PDF, 28.48KB) applies to all 3M operations worldwide. It holds anyone working at or visiting a 3M locations to strict safety and health requirements. Based on our core business values, the policy stems from our integrated vision for safe and healthy people, products, and planet.
Every 3M location has a comprehensive management system that helps drive continuous improvement by addressing various areas of safety and health, such as the prevention of injuries and illnesses and promotion of a total safety culture. We set goals to drive performance improvements, and our progress toward them is measured on a regular basis. A quarterly “scorecard” monitors a variety of metrics in such areas as life safety, process hazard management, ergonomics, and more. Scorecard results are used to make program adjustments. Then, the results become critical input for future analysis and planning. Ultimately our goal is zero safety incidents.
In 2010, we set a goal to promote a road to EHS excellence at new 3M sites. Last year, we developed and implemented a new process to assess all of our new facilities within the first 6 months of being acquired to determine their compliance with applicable regulations and alignment with our corporate expectations.
