3M Announces Brand Change To Commercial Air Filters

3M Announces Brand Change To Commercial Air Filters

In January, 2014, 3M Purification Inc. initiated a brand change of its Commercial HVAC filters from Filtrete™ to the 3M™ brand.

The decision was based on third party research 3M conducted within the commercial building facilities market segment. The research showed that 3M™ and Filtrete™ ranked first and second as most recognized brands and both had strong trust and innovation connotation. However, the 3M brand was perceived to be more related to commercial and industrial uses, while Filtrete™ related more to residential use.

The new branding was formally announced at the 2014 AHR show in New York City, the largest international HVAC industry tradeshow, and supported by formal press release to national media. Attached you will find a copy of the press release.

Sharing the 3M brand will allow Commercial HVAC filters to join other 3M products offered into the commercial building facility market under one singular trusted brand, making it easier for customers to identify our filters with the quality and innovative design they’ve come to expect from this brand.

For HVAC engineers it is often a fine balance of finding the best air filter solution for the building and keeping their operating budgets in check. Meeting environmental requirements for buildings is becoming increasingly important too.

Energy consumption related to HVAC systems is a significant component of the overall energy consumption required to operate a building. Using energy efficient air handlers is one step towards reducing those operational costs. Choosing the right HVAC replacement filters helps maximize those savings opportunities.

The greater the ability of a filter to load with debris without substantial increase in pressure drop, the greater the possible energy savings. HVAC engineers typically look for filters that have a low initial pressure drop, high filter loading capacity and the minimum required particle capture efficiency required.
