Clarification of Beer with Depth Filters

Clarification with depth filtration plays a critical role in breweries producing non-pasteurized beer, often supplementing previous process steps such as fining, centrifugation and primary filtration with diatomaceous earth (DE). Conventional filter presses with filter sheets are often used in this step, although more and more breweries recognize the advantages of depth filtration media deployed in easy-to-use, lenticular style cartridges. Lenticular style cartridges are installed in a totally enclosed stainless steel filter housing, helping to limit any beer loss during filtration, oxygen pick-up, and potential external contamination - all problems associated with conventional filter press designs.
