Decolorization in Distilled Spirits

Lenticular-style filters with activated carbon that help to decolorize distilled spirits and reduce objectionable compounds.

Production of many distilled spirits includes treatment with activated carbon to remove unwanted color and standardize the spirit. Conventional methods, such as filtration through activated carbon packed columns or the addition of loose activated carbon that is subsequently removed through additional filtration, are increasingly coming under scrutiny as inefficient and difficult to clean post use.

A more modern approach is to use activated carbon that is incorporated into an easy-to-use lenticular cartridge format, as in the Zeta PlusTM Activated Carbon series filter. These filters are installed in a totally enclosed filter housing, eliminating leakage of spirit. The compact design minimizes need floor space and is significantly easier to clean as compared to bulk carbon.
