Haze Reduction in Distilled Spirits
Cellulose-based depth filters that help reduce haze and control particulate in distilled spirits.
Fermentation, barrel aging, and ingredient instability can all lead to hazes forming in distilled spirits. While some are temporary and temperature dependent ("chill haze") and others can be permanent. Distilleries have long used cellulose based depth filtration to help control distilled spirit haze. Although typically deployed as filter sheets installed in a conventional filter press, many distillers are converting to a more modern format, the lenticular style depth filter cartridge such as the Zeta PlusTM H and MH series filters.
Installed in a totally enclosed filter housing, Zeta Plus series filters are easy to install and remove for rapid turn-around, and limit both leakage of spirit as well as alcohol vapors, both common in the conventional filter press design.
