3M Carbon Block Technology

3M Carbon Block Technology

3M's patented carbon block technology is best in class because of its unique bonding structure. Through the use of tightly controlled raw materials, our products form a matrix of carbon, heavy metal scavenging media, polymer binder, and other materials. Advances in technology have allowed us to greatly reduce the size of the carbon block, while achieving the same, or similar claims.

Learn more about 3M Carbon Block Technology

3M Purification's carbon filter technology leads the industry in water filtration and chemical reduction capabilities. Our carbon filters are comprised of many different types of activated carbons, heavy metal scavenging agents, binders, and other materials. We're able to customize the size and shape of these filters to meet our customers' needs. Because of our ability to customize, we can reduce the size of the filter, while providing the same or higher performance. Our filters are much smaller and higher performing than the other filters in the market today.

Our carbon blocks also have the advantage of using additional 3M technologies to further enhance their filtration ability. The use of proprietary surface modifications on binders and carbons allow for higher capabilities of the media without sacrificing their primary use. These modifications also vastly improve the performance of material currently available to the public, making 3M filters more dependable. Other 3M technologies such as nonwoven wraps and nylon membranes surrounding the carbon blocks can add even more sediment life to the filter, or provide bacteria filtration, as well as other specific treatments within a single cartridge.

We are at the forefront of using new carbon formulations, currently not available from others. Not only do 3M filters reduce 99% of Chlorine Taste and Odor, but we also reduce microorganisms (Cysts), heavy metals (Lead, Mercury, Asbestos), industrial chemicals (Benzene, Tetrachloroethylene), volatile organic chemicals/pesticides (Alachlor, Toxaphene), and Pharmaceuticals (Ibuprofen, Progesterone), just to name a few.

In addition to our superior design and technology, our products are held to top regulatory standards. All design testing done in house follows NSF 42 and 53 protocols. Products are also certified using domestic and international 3rd party agencies, such NSF, WQA, WRAS, and/or EU Food Contact. These agencies are used to ensure and verify that 3M products are of the highest quality. Other regulations such as State Certification (California, Iowa, and Wisconsin), Prop 65, REACh, RoHS, Low Lead Compliance, et al are followed to provide our customers not only with superior products, but socially and environmentally responsible products. 3M promotes environmental responsibility through many programs such as recycling non conforming product back into other products, requiring vendors to adhere to Activated Carbon Sustainability standards, and other waste reduction projects throughout all manufacturing plants.
