3M has received a number of inquiries regarding the appropriate respirator recommendations for potential exposures to the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) (previously referred to as a novel coronavirus (nCoV)). Valley Fever and Construction Workers

Valley fever is caused by inhalation of the spores of Coccidioides immitis - a fungus. The fungus is commonly found in the soil in the south western United States.

Risks To Construction Workers:
The US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) states that construction workers who disturb spore containing soil (e.g. dozer operators, excavation workers) is one of the groups most at risk for infection.

Influenza H7N9 Virus Outbreak in China

The recent occurrence of a novel influenza A (H7N9) virus confirmed in poultry and humans from multiple provinces in China has generated inquires regarding the use of respiratory protective devices to help minimize occupational exposure to the H7N9 virus. At this time, there is no evidence of human to human transmission, although the possibility is being investigated.
