Welcome to the 3M Hearing Protection Product Selector
The hearing protectors in this selector help reduce exposure to hazardous noise and other loud sounds. Misuse or failure to wear hearing protectors at all times that you are exposed to noise may result in hearing loss or injury. If you have an ear infection or there is any drainage from your ear, consult with your physician before wearing earplugs.
Research suggests that many users will receive less noise reduction than indicated by the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) due to variation in hearing protector fit, fitting skill and motivation of the user. If the NRR is used to estimate the typical workplace protection provided by a hearing protector, it is recommended that the NRR be reduced by 50%, a practice known as ‘derating’. The preferred method for estimating the noise reduction obtained by individuals wearing earplugs is to perform a fit test with the earplugs fit by the wearer in the manner s/he normally wears them.
