Jim has served as Director of Government Contract Compliance since 2005. In his role, he leads a team in assessing the status and improving the awareness of government contracting throughout the company. Jim and his team strive to establish a center of excellence for government contracting, acting as advisors to divisional contract administrators and management at 3M. Prior to his current position, Jim has managed the Business Unit Group and Sourcing Team for 3M's Health Care Business. He is a Retired Naval Officer who served 26 years as a Supply Corps Officer. His previous experience has been with Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., as well as the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. His U.S. Navy command assignments were Commander, Defense Contract Management Command of the Twin Cities and Commander, Military Sealift Command Central Technical Activity. Afloat assignments were Assistant Supply Officer on the USS COONTZ and Supply Officer on the USS GUAM.

An Armor and Cavalry officer by trade, for the last three years of his military career Major Farmer was the Biometrics lead for U.S. Army Special Operations Command where he was instrumental in the design, development, and fielding of tactical biometrical solutions and the architecture in which they were deployed globally in support of SOF operations. Combat Helmet Systems Program Manager , 3M Advanced Materials Division

Kurt Schier serves as the Combat Helmet Systems Program Manager for the 3M Advanced Materials Division, where he leads 3M's Enhanced Combat Helmet program with the US Marine Corps. He also oversees 3M's other combat helmet programs ongoing with the Army, SOCOM and the commercial market.
