The first direct posterior composite to achieve less than 1% volumetric shrinkage.

Based on 3M ESPE's latest product innovation, silorane chemistry, Filtek™ Silorane Low Shrink Posterior Restorative is the first direct posterior composite that shrinks less than 1%. This scientific breakthrough reduces polymerisation stress by up to 80% – and leads to excellent marginal integrity.

A dedicated system adhesive provides optimal bond strength. Achieving the ideal margin begins with the right chemistry. Silorane System Adhesive Self-Etch Primer and Bond is the one and only adhesive formulated to ensure optimal bonding of the Filtek™ Silorane Low Shrink Posterior Restorative. This extraordinarily low-shrinking composite and optimal adhesive are formulated to work together for great clinical outcomes with:

  • excellent marginal integrity,
  • reduced risk of stress-induced enamel fracture, and
  • reduced risk of post-operative sensitivity.

NOTE: This adhesive is not designed to work with other composites.

A composite category breakthrough: "ring-opening" Silorane chemistry!

The illustration demonstrates how Filtek™ Silorane Low Shrink Posterior Restorative works at the molecular level to reduce shrinkage dramatically, compared to methacrylate-based composites.

As silorane-based composite polymerises, "ring-opening" monomers connect by opening, flattening and EXTENDING toward each other. The result is significantly less volumetric shrinkage compared to methacrylate-based composites. Note the areas labeled "volumetric shrinkage."

As methacrylate-based composites cure, the molecules of these "linear monomers" connect by actually SHIFTING closer together in a linear response. The result is a loss of volume.

Filtek™ Silorane Low Shrink Posterior Restorative, together with Silorane System Adhesive Self-Etch Primer and Bond, can be used for the following posterior restorations:

  • Class I
  • Class II

The Filtek Silorane System may be used with glass ionomer cements or resin-modified glass ionomer cements, as cavity liners or bases. Composites and compomers (including flowable composites and compomers, which are bonded to the tooth substance using an adhesive), may not be used as a liner or base under a Filtek Silorane filling.
