Healing through primary intention involves the wound edges being brought together using sutures or adhesive strips; usually after injury or operation. Primary intention wounds are associated with minimal tissue loss.
Island dressings such as 3M™ Medipore™ + Pad Adhesive Wound Dressing and 3M™ Tegaderm™ +Pad Dressing can be placed over primary intention wounds and will absorb any minor exudate. Film dressings such as 3M Tegaderm + Pad, have the added benefit of being waterproof allowing patients to shower, and protecting the wound from external contaminants.
