What kind of computer do I need to install the software?
Any computer running Windows XP Pro software with a high-speed broadband or other Internet connection will do. You'll need to dedicate this PC exclusively to playing out your content.
Can I use any digital display device?
Yes, you can attach any display to our players, including plasmas, LCDs, projectors and video walls, provided an appropriate video card is specified. Screens can be any resolution and can be in portrait or landscape format. You can attach multiple screens to each player, although they will all show the same content. You need a different player for each 'channel' of content.
Can I change the layout of content on the screens?
Yes, 3M Network Edition allows screen layouts to be scheduled with your playlists, meaning you can change the look of your screens by location, time and day. 3M software supports up to three content zones in each layout the main dynamic content controlled by the playlists within Network Edition, a scrolling text ticker that can be updated easily via the 3M.com portal, and a third zone containing HTML or XML content. Alternatively, it is easy to design your own customised screen layouts, for example to incorporate RSS feeds or corporate logos. Ask for our White Paper for information on how to do this.
Can I play 'live' content on the screens?
Yes, simply take your XML data from your data source (such as a database), incorporate the data within a webpage in your desired layout, then schedule that webpage to appear in your playlists. Or create a customised screen layout with the XML data in a content zone.
Can I include live video feeds in playlists?
Yes, it is possible to schedule a feed from a live video source, such as tv, within your playlists. This requires some additional hardware and a signal to be fed to each player, but 3M can advise you on how to set this up.
How secure are 3M's servers?
Our exceptional reliability depends on secure and fully redundant servers that comprise the backbone of our terrestrial, web-based communications infrastructure. The servers we use to host your digital signage network are housed by Adhost in Seattle, USA (www.adhost.com) located in Fisher Plaza (www.fisherplaza.com), a large co-location facility built to California seismic zone 4 standards providing redundancy in firewall and server configuration, cooling, power and internet connection. 3M Digital Signage operates with a Gigabit Ethernet network backbone, dedicated leased bandwidth, a total disk capacity of one (1) terabyte and three (3) redundant OC-12 connections. A special application provides automatic 24/7 web site monitoring to deliver our "always-on" guarantee. The Network Operations Centre includes a team of staff experts dedicated to the 24/7 monitoring and trouble-shooting response required for total network reliability. 3M Digital Signage is ISO 9000 certified.
Can I trial the software before making a decision to purchase?
Of course, simply ask your 3M contact for a set of demo licences for Network Edition. We will happily provide you with 3 player licences and access to our 3MDS.com web portal so that you can set up your own network to test our software. The demo software is fully functional but will expire after 30 days.
Why do I need to pay a subscription for the Network Edition software?
Network Edition uses secure 3M-hosted servers to manage our customers' networks. The benefit to the customer is that they do not need to provide the expensive hardware and support infrastructure required to ensure servers are operational 24/7. Instead, 3M provide this infrastructure and support services as we are able to share these costs across our customer base. The subscription is a contribution to these costs of using our servers. 3M is also investing heavily to further develop our software solutions. We have the ability push software upgrades out to customers as soon as they are released. The subscription allows us to do this for all our customers at no extra charge, meaning customers do not need to seek additional budget in the future for the purchase of upgraded software. Customers with a subscription also benefit from free access to our technical support helpline provided by 3M.
Can I get training on 3M software?
3M can provide free access to online self-training modules to enable customers to be trained on the full functionality of 3M software. Additional personal training by 3M, either web-based or in person, can be arranged if required.
I want to purchase 3M software. What happens next?
As soon as you provide a purchase order number we will begin processing your order. If your order is just for software then approximately 24 hours after your order is placed with 3M you will receive an email with a web link you will need to click on in order to download your software. At this web link just follow the instructions to set up your software and begin managing your 3M digital signage network. You can also download both our Quick Start Guide and our full User Manual. If you have ordered hardware and/or installation services, then we will usually pre-install and configure the software for you.
